Solar Photovoltaic Technology

Solar Photovoltaic Technology – Converts sunlight directly into electricity to power Homes and Businesses.
Photovoltaics, shorten to PV is the process of converting light (photons) to electricity. There is also Passive Solar Technology, which takes light and harnesses heat from the sun to warm our homes and businesses. Solar Water Heating, that harnesses heat from the sun to provide hot water for homes. Concentrating Solar Power, which harnesses heat from the sun to provide electricity for large power stations.

So, what is passive solar technologies? Passive solar technologies convert sunlight into usable heat and cause air movement for ventilating to heat and cool living spaces without active mechanical or electrical devices.

  • Solar Power has been around for a long time!It is thought that “Archimedes” was the first documented user of “Solar Power” or the use of “Solar energy”, in an organized faction. Archimedes, born in 212 BC, in the City of Syracuse in Sicily. Authors wrote that once when the city of Syracuse was under attack by an invading force, that Archimedes used fire to destroy the enemy ships. This was accomplished, by using mirrors to focus sunlight in a concentrated fashion onto the ships, thereby causing them to catch fire. Today, we see this same approach that was used by ‘Archimedes’ with our “Concentrated PV (CPV) systems concentrated sunlight on solar cells. This is done by concentrating collectors that use a lens or mirrors to focus sunlight onto the cells.
